ABOUT THE EVENT

This year’s 4th Annual European Biomethane Conference will be hosted by the Renewable Gas Forum Ireland (RGFI) and the German Energy Agency, DENA.  For the last three years the conference has taken place in Berlin and has attracted 150 participants each year, from more than 15 countries. This year, in acknowledgement of the growth of the sector across Europe, the EBC will take place in Dublin on 20 September 2018.

The growth in the development of the renewable energy sector across the EU, and the opportunities presented by the acceleration of biomethane production provide a timely context to this event, which will provide a forum dedicated to identifying biomethane trends and prospects in Europe, to explore and develop potential new business models, projects and cross-border trading activities, and to facilitate networking with industry leaders in the field.

Interconnectivity between European biomethane markets looks set to become increasingly important in working towards a low-carbon future across the EU, and the Conference will facilitate discussion, networking, and the exchange of know-how, experience and expertise between industry leaders in the field.

The Conference will be relevant to all those working in the sector and will bring together industry leaders, representative bodies from across the EU, investment finance brokers, and government representatives.

South Pole will calculate the emissions based on the actual number of participants after the event and offer to offset the amount of CO2 emissions with the following project: Blue Fire Biogas, Thailand

This project mitigates global warming and air pollution at a Tapioca starch plant in Thailand, by capturing and repurposing harmful methane emissions. By doing so, sustainable energy is generated, the environment is improved, and social benefits are created for inhabitants of the local area. For more information click here.

Programme

The Conference will provide delegates with an opportunity to meet, network and discuss all aspects of the biomethane industry with leaders from the gas industry, trade associations, energy agencies, producers and traders of biomethane, scientists, and politicians from Ireland and other EU countries.

The development of green gas markets in the EU is becoming increasingly urgent and important in moving towards a low-carbon future, and this topic will be a key element of the Conference, which will also provide debate and discussion on innovative technologies, as well as on regulatory obstacles and opportunities.

Keynote speakers will be:

Minister Michael Creed, Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine,
Ireland’s Contribution to the Fight on Climate Change, who will present on Ireland’s contribution and challenges in addressing climate change through low-carbon technologies;

Malcolm McDowell, DG Energy, European Commission, who will discuss the recast of the Renewable Energy Directive and its implications for bioenergy.
